Required Text and Materials: folder (teacher will provide), zipper pocket to keep supplies in, pencil, ruler, stick glue, a roll of scotch tape, scissors, colored pencils, and crayons. The supplies will be stored in your child’s zipper bag, and will be available for use during other courses also, if need be.
Course Content: This writing class will spend extensive time on poetry writing and writing specialized narratives (like suspense stories). If time permits, we will also complete a research writing project. This class is intended to supplement your child's language arts curriculum. Part A of Writer's Workshop (the class offered in the 2007-2008 school year) is NOT a prerequisite for this class.
Expected amount of homework per week: Children will be given ample time to write, revise, and illustrate their stories during class. Any outside work on a piece of writing will be completely voluntary.
Course Evaluation: There will be no grades given in this class because it is a support class. I will send home comments at the end of each 8 week period to provide feedback of your child’s knowledge.
Bio: I began
teaching in the fall of 2001 after completing my Master of Arts in teaching from
Trinity University in San Antonio. I taught third grade for three years in a
public school in San Antonio before deciding to stay home after the birth of my
first child. My husband and I now have two beautiful boys (ages one and three),
and I am extremely excited about this opportunity to teach a few home schooling
classes this year while still being able to stay home with my children. Our
family attends the Vineyard church in Pearland, where I enjoy teaching preschool
Sunday school. I can’t wait to meet your children and teach them in a fun,
interactive environment!
