Class Content and Style:
This class is designed for college bound
students. During class, we will use a
combination of lecture, games, and video clips to introduce new material and to
review. About half of our time during class
will be spent completing labs. We will
learn to properly write up our lab results, and by the end of the course, the
students should be well prepared for college science courses. Topics will
include: atomic structure, chemical equations, stoichiometry,
molecular geometry, acid/base chemistry, chemistry of
solutions, thermodynamics, kinetics, and chemical equilibrium.
Homework: Homework will consist of completing practice problems, laboratory reports, and reading. Tests will also be done at home. I will assign about 3-4 hours of outside work per week.
Evaluation: I will assign a grade for each quarter made up of class participation, daily work, homework, and chapter quizzes. A "Progress Report" will be sent home with the student each quarter and an end of the year report and certificate of completion that counts for one High School Credit.
