Required Text and Workbook: Bob Jones University Press, The Physical World, c. 2001, and Laboratory Manual: The Physical World. c.2001.   (Be careful, there is a new edition put out by Bob Jones University Press called "Physical Science" -- this is NOT the correct book.)

Supply List:  Loose-leaf notebook and paper, 5 notebook dividers, notebook zipper pocket, pen or pencil.

Class Content and Style:  I will emphasize the scientific method, good lab procedures, and organizational skills (including note-taking and keeping an organized notebook). Topics will include: the study of the measurement, properties and classification of matter; models of the atom, the periodic table, chemical reactions, and basic chemistry; energy and motion, work and machines, heat, electricity, magnetism, sound, and the electromagnetic spectrum.   In class we will do approximately half lecture/discussion and half experiments, investigations, and hands-on activities.

Homework: Out of class will be mostly reading the chapters and assigned exercises in the workbook.   I will assign about 2-3 hours of outside work per week.

Evaluation:  I will assign a grade for each quarter made up of class participation, daily work, homework, and chapter quizzes.  A "Progress Report" will be sent home with the student each quarter and an end of the year report and certificate of completion that counts for one High School Credit.
