Class Description:

The Science 5-6 program will be changing for the 2010-2011 school year.  We will be using the Bob Jones 5 - 2010-2011 and Bob Jones 6 - 2012-2013 curriculum as it builds a two-year overview and a solid preparation for the Science 7-8 classes.  Some of the topics will include Minerals and Rocks, Fossils and Dinosaurs, Matter, Energy and Heat, Weather, Sound and Light, Biomes and many more interesting topics.  Science 5-6 is a two-year program that consists of Life Science and Earth Science.  Science 5-6 follows the TEKS, the Texas guidelines and standards for your child's grade level.

I will emphasize the scientific method, good lab procedures and having fun with science.  Children learn by hands on, so we will spend most of our class time experimenting, learning the concepts and procedures.  I send home weekly "information sheets" for each lesson which includes what we studied in class and homework assignments.  Your child will be given weekly homework and be responsible for reading the material in their text books to be prepared for the class.  There will be a few out of class assignments that students will be responsible for bringing to class to complete their classwork and occasionally Science Projects.  I use an online grade book that you can view on the Internet to view your child's grades and class participation at anytime.  Progress reports will be given out every six weeks as well as the end of the year cumulative grade.

Supply list: Red folder, wide ruled spiral notebook, paper, a set of colored pencils, glue, scissors, and pencils.

Biography:  I've resided in the Pearland area for over 30 years, where I've met my husband and have had two beautiful children, Mia and Micah.  In 2002, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston majoring in Communications/Broadcast Journalism.  Shortly after graduation, I found that I had a love for teaching children.  So I returned to college and received my Teaching Certificate.  I taught in the public school system for six years and have enjoyed every moment of my tenure.  Now the Lord has blessed me with a wonderful opportunity to teach Home school children.  Teaching home schoolers has been such a blessing and a rewarding experience for me.  I'm extremely excited to meet all the new faces in the upcoming school year and look forward to making special memories for both myself and your children.
