Course Content: Konos is a hands-on program that captivates children’s attentions and focuses on increasing their retention.  It’s about teaching individual children and not just a curriculum.  We will cover several topics from the KONOS curriculum centering on the Bible characteristics of “Orderliness” and “Obedience”. We will discuss the science/social studies topic for the week, and include activities such as arts and crafts, drama and experiments, to incorporate what we have learned.

Bible: Each week we will start the day with a Bible passage/story with a verse connected to the science/social studies topic for the week. The children will listen to a Bible passage, then fill in the blanks of the Bible verse, and try to memorize the verse for the week with positive reinforcers.

Science/Social Studies: This year the Biblical story of "God’s Creation" will be our overall theme. Each day of creation will correspond with a KONOS unit, including Authority/Light/Bible; Plant Classification; Planets/Moons, Animal Classification; Horses; Kings and Queens; and Town/Community.

Creative Writing: The writing activities will promote and encourage the children to spend time thinking over the science/social studies topic introduced.  The students will also have handwriting pages to practice throughout the year.

Language Arts: We will practice phonic rules, reading, practice handwriting, and journal the second semester.  Each of these skills are based around the themes we are studying in our science and social studies units.

Weekly Homework: The class is self-contained, though occasionally we will send activities home. Reading, writing, and simple math games are encouraged on a daily basis.
